It's kind of funny that just over a year ago I was "borrowing" a Fashion Monitor subscription from university to quench my thirst for industry knowledge and now not only am I a subscriber myself but I was invited to attend their first party in London ahead of the A/W shows. Not working in fashion during the day, I can still feel like quite an outsider at these kinds of things, but I could definitely get used to the lifestyle :) Oh, and the lovely Hannah White and Emily-Rose Cater made me feel very welcome.
The views from Altitude 360 Black (it's at the top of Millbank Tower) are incredible; if only some condensed matter theorists would pick it as a conference venue... I was looking forward to trying the Nomad 'food art' I found on their website - alas, it wasn't quite as dramatic as I'd been expecting but the canapés certainly looked and tasted delicious. I may have to start serving my own dishes with pesto pipettes (or even a Swiss chard vest?). It was also great to catch up with some of the people I haven't seen since last year and I probably won't be seeing again until fashion week. The next few weeks are all about work, work, work.
I hummed and hawed for quite a while about what I shoulder wear - do I go for my new S/S pre-orders which are just arriving, or a do an all-London look? - but in the end I went for a combination of warm and luxe. I layered my Givenchy tattoo print t-shirt over John Rocha boiled wool shorts, two pairs of black leggings (M&S thermals all the way!) and some super comfy Kurt Geiger boots (I have recently stuffed them with fleece liners). I also decided it was time to break out the emerald studded Mawi necklace I've been hoarding since I scored it in the sample sale before Christmas. I managed to dodge the press board at the entrance to the tower but I did get papped at the party itself. When will professional photographers realise intense flash is sooo not chic?!
I never come to this part of London at night so I may have drunkenly gone all touristy around the House of Parliament... I hope I'm not under surveillance by MI5 now - in an all black outfit I probably looked like Rooney Mara casing the joint.
Right, now I'm off to wax my bikini-line with the Nair Brazilian kit I found in the gift-bag :-/ And I don't care that Stasie prefers a full bush.
