I've never been much of a shoe boy, my eyes are always drawn more to shirts and coats that make the first impression when you look at someone, but since getting my Prada espadrille creepers I've found myself perving over shoe sites more and more. Today I'm sorting out my outfits for fashion week and deciding what needs to make an emergency pit-stop at the dry cleaners and it's becoming increasingly obvious I don't own enough pairs of shoes. Sure I've got the Pradas, but I do like to keep those for special occasions. Day-to-day I've basically been living in some Kurt Keiger leather boots and trusty old Converse (although of course my summer staple was the pair of Carin Wester gladiators). I think it's time to invest.
And, after a quick browse through the interweb, there are certainly some pieces I'd be happy investing in if I had the dosh! Mugler has collaborated with London shoemakers Underground (previous collaborations include Ashish, Qasimi, that amazing Armand Basi One collection and Lagerfeld) to produce some pointed toe creeper-style looks. I would love a pair with the black buckles, but I'm not sure about the £400 price-tag - Underground's own shoes are usually below the £100 mark! Then again, I don't have anything from Mugler yet.
Dr Martens has an amazing pair of - what I like to think of as - school-boy shoes in a subversive multicoloured and glossy petrol finish. They are beautiful, but Charlie informs me they aren't actually waterproof! Not quite what you'd expect from the Doctor. Still, they look damned good...
I've also been considering purchasing a unisex heel for a while now but have always been put off by the disparaging stares and comments I'm likely to get in Oxford. However, now that I'm moving to London in under two weeks... I like the options from Rad Hourani (above) and Gareth Pugh (below). They look sleek and powerful, and I think the heel is a manageable height. Just need to get myself some leather leggings to go with :-)
My most practical choice would be these shearling-lined trainer boots by Neil Barrett in collaboration with Palladium. Cosy, comfy and packing a serious rubber tread for the inevitable snow and ice storms (thanks, Global Warming), these could quickly become my go-to shoe for the winter months. Not to mention the fact that these guys live at the more affordable end of the spectrum.
Luckily I don't get paid until the end of the month, so I have a few weeks to deliberate. I just hope I don't end up buying all of these...
